Still Life

This was one of my still lifes that I could never get to upload and I finally got it to pull up so I could covert it to a jpeg file. Anyways this was a shot I took of just the pitcher and I wanted to make it look like you could see through it.I used some of the other objects at the right of it to try and bring the piece out a little more...I had a tuff time doing this one..

Final Project (Good vs. Evil)

My whole idea and concept for this project was to incorporate in some way or fashion the idea of a left handed hitter vs. a right handed hitter. When we were younger we used to think of the opposite person hitting against us, right handed or left, was the good or evil pertaining to what side of the plate you hit from. So having said that I used the representation of two hitters, right and left, and put them facing each other with the focal point a baseball and the words Good vs. Evil in the middle.

Emotional Word

For my emotional word I had a lot of ideas that I came up with before deciding on using the word Fury. I thought the representation of the word would be the best one to use since I could incorporate the flames and red with the word. I was very pleased how this piece turned out and had a lot of fun drawing the flames for the design.

Asymmetry

The asymmetrical design was based off the same concept as the symmetrical coin design. This time the coins are falling into one focal group at the bottom of the page to the left. The coins represent a concept of a tangible item which can be seen falling into one larger group which i liked alot.

Symmetry

The coin idea was the first thing that came to my head when I was trying to find a concept for the symmetrical design. The design shows how the coins are lined up in the center of the page and continually falling from the center group at the top of the page. I had fun putting this piece together!

Structure Modification

For the structure modification I chose to revisit the piece I did for the ambiguous shape. I decided that I was going to basically use the same feel of the piece but rearrange how the raindrops were falling from the sky. By putting all the raindrops going to one side it was easier to create an asymmetrical feel to the piece. I was happy how it turned out because it showed the same feel of an ambiguous piece but at the same time gave it new direction with how the storm was coming down.

Ambiguous

For This project I decided to use a rain drop feel. The ambiguous shapes were easy to use because the feel of the clouds and the raindrops themselves are typically ambiguous shapes.I liked the way it turned out because it kind of had a natural feel to it like you were looking at raindrops falling from the sky.

Final Project Proposal

For my final project I was thinking about something I could possibly do with a series of events involving the emotions and actions on the baseball field. By using a 2-D design of a baseball and or a visual representation of the field I would like to depict some of the actions and emotions that take place on the field which many people who watch the games normally do not get to experience. Someone might ask what these emotions might be in which they cannot recognize from just watching the game? Coming from my standpoint, this year I have the opportunity to play ball with five other guys that I grew up with throughout summer ball and high school ball so we have a certain symmetry in how we play together. It is a great feeling to go out and play ball and have someone else beside who thinks and reacts in the same ways that you do. Having said this, some of the emotions, which I am talking about, are personal feelings and reactions on the field in the midst of actions.
By creating a series of visual representations I will be able to display four different emotions, which I feel during “ the heat of battle” so to speak. Such emotions that I could represent might include concentration, intensity, perseverance, and heart. Each time I step on the baseball field each one of these emotions runs through my blood and the people around me as well. It hard to sit down and right about the emotions you experience when your in the moment but I think I might be easier to depict them through words in a visual representation. So a collection of emotional words might be the easiest aspect of this project.

Structure Remake

For the original piece I took my ambiguous structure and looked at how I could possibly rearrange the outline. The original ambiguous piece came really off the top of my head. It was a rainy day outside and I thought I might incorporate some of the gloomy shapes and structures which were visual that day. The way the structure was set up created a very different view and feel on the rainy day. The clouds are over sized and the rain drops are as well. I thought this would create a very ambiguous feel for the structure.

The second composition i did was taking the ambiguous piece and changing the structure so that I could recreate the feel of the rainy gloomy day.The composition pretty much stayed the same but the few things I did change to it made it more of a symmetrical structure now. The cloud is still in the upper left hand corner but now the rain drops are falling at downward angle to the right creating a symmetrical angle on the composition. I also took the bigger river out of the bottom and made it smaller in the sense that the composition is focusing more on the rain falling.

color

As anyone walks or drives around town they can see that the leaves are finally changing and fall is setting in. The different colors that these trees represent are beautiful and always seem to catch the eye. So for my color example I chose to look at the different colors of the leaves involved with the Fall season. Some of the different colors around my house are usually the same shades of orange and red, but this year there is a variety of different hues. The main one I looked at was Red/Orange. These leaves which are bright red and bright orange seem to create a pattern within the structure of the tree. The reds and orange create a familiar example of what fall is supposed to look and feel like. The brightness of the leaves shows an Opaque example of how dark the texture of the leaves are. These leaves also display a dark chroma. The most familiar colors like red and orange typically display an opaque hue and dark chroma, but its the leave such a bright yellow and light green that create the full texture of the Fall tree. The texture of the leaves displays a ruff and solid hue that gives people the feeling or something new is upon them. Many different colors create representation of the seasons and the reds and oranges of these leaves definitely create the feeling of Halloween and Thanksgiving just as a bright red and green would represent the Christmas holiday. Its really easy to go about your day and not realize all the different colors which make up everyday life. When I was looking at the different colors of the leaves I think i kind of dawned on me just how many things in life are looked over. The gift of all these different colors in life is truly a blessing and to think of living in a black and white society would be unimaginable.

Deep Depth

For the deeper depth thumbnails I looked at alot of things such as sunsets and water, and tress. These items came to mind when thinking of looking at designs in a deeper stand point. These items show particular lines and comtrast in a different mindset. By looking at the items in a deeper depth you can really study the direct lines and shape of the modular.

Shallow Depth

For the shallow depth thumbnails I used a lot of items that looked to me like they were up close or could have been seen from a shallow distance better. The idea of seeing things from a shallow depth looks better in my eyes becaue you can really focus on details and shape lines of the desgins.

Space Walk

For the space walk we ventured out around campus to find and describe different aspects of shape in contrast to shallow space and depth. The first aspect of space I looked at was the stands and dugouts in contrast to the baseball field. The stands and the dugouts make up a backdrop of the stadium and really give it more life. The concept of a shallow space makes up a collection of smaller objects that bring together a bigger picture such as Scotland Yard as a whole. On the other hand for the depth portion of space I chose to look at Loyd and Loyd beach in relationship with the soccer fields and the soccer scoreboard. When you are standing up in front of Loyd or on Loyd beach it gives a great view of the soccer fields and scoreboard kind of like you are looking down into a valley. Without both Loyd/Loyd beach and the soccer fields the space would be very empty and just be a plain field whereas now it creates a generalization and separation of the athletic facilities on campus. My idea of a comfortable space was the computer pods in the library. They are not too close together but at the same time they are not so far away that you could not reach around and ask a friend for help. This comfortable space creates a calm and collected environment for student to use the computers and study. My idea of crazy and hectic space would be Pearson's at lunch time. Everyone rushes out of class to run to Pearson's and beat the crazy line. Most of the time the students do not beat the rush and are standing in line for what seems like hours. This uncomfortable space can create hostility among our fine students at MC!

Off Campus Walk

For my off campus walk I decided to walk around Pigeon Forge for the car show which was going on two weekends ago. While having tons of tourists walking around the streets of Pigeon Forge is not out of the ordinary, the new sights of all the classic cars is the main focus now. Some of the classic views of symmetry play into the roles of a completed classic automobile, while on the other hand different paint schemes and alterations to these classic cars cane create asymmetry and radial designs as well. It is fascinating how the lines are so clean and perfect on a freshly painted car. Other things such as texture and sound bring out the complete package. As for the uncompleted cars they also have a certain sense of symmetry, asymmetry, and radial design. Each classic car creates its own aspect of design. My dad builds classic cars as a hobby and the money he had made over the years is putting me through Maryville College right now. Watching my father build these cars blows my mind sometimes with the stuff he can do with different shapes of metal and fiberglass. By shaping and altering these shapes of metal and fiberglass the things he can create and mold are amazing and gives these cars their sense of symmetry, asymmetry, and radial design.
